You'll need: --large glass jars with a big opening & smaller glass jars that will fit inside the large jar --cheesecloth (very thin material) --thick rubber bands --damp soil --bits of leftover food --ants
Put about 3 inches of soil in the bottom of the large jar. Use the smaller jar to collect some ants from outside. Place the small jar upside down, inside the large jar. Fill the large jar with soil around the small jar. Put some food scraps on top of the soil in the jar. Place the cheesecloth over the opening in the jar. Wrap a rubber band around the cheesecloth to keep it in place. Watch the ants for awhile & see what they create. After a few days, release the ants back outside. Let the kids know that the ants work together so they can all live. They all have their own jobs & help each other in their colony.
