This activity allows kids to think about themselves, their favorites and be creative in art. It lets them show who they really are.
You need: --different sizes & colors of paper --markers, crayons, colored pencils --pens & pencils --additional craft items (optional)
Brainstorm with the kids & record their favorite things on a chart or board. To make it easier, include categories such as: favorite hero, favorite game, fruit, flower, band, musician, sport, food, book, vacation spot, animal,...
Think of ways to represent them so they form a face. For example: a child may say, "I used a basketball for a head because i play basketball and it's my favorite sport. I used a donut and an egg for my eyes because those are my favorite breakfast foods."
Design a face full of symbols & use markers & crayons to color it in. Encourage symbols for all features such as: hair, eyebrows, mouth, nose, teeth, lips,...
Have the kids write about what they chose to represent them. You can use a blanket sentence like:
"In my portrait, I used____________for my_______________because____________.
Mount the portraits with the explanations for an eye-catching art exhibit.
