In most cases, the grass will grow within a few days & provide great fun for all ages.
You need: --sun & shade grass seed-about 1 cup per sock --potting soil (about 3 cups per sock) --old sock per kid (tube length) --assorted paint, puff paint, glitter, eyes, pom-poms,... --colored yarn --plastic or aluminum tray
Place the potting soil in a small plastic bucket with the grass seed. Mix well. Let the kids mix the grass & soil with their hands. Fill the sock until almost full. Using colored yarn, tie-up the end of the tail. You can also tie the other end so that it appears that the snake has a head.
Let the kids decorate the snake with all kinds of colors using paint, glitter, eyes,...
Make sure they do not cover the entire snake with paint as the grass needs room to grow through the sock. Place the snake on a plastic tray or aluminum pie pan & water the snake with a spray bottle making sure to wet him well because snakes like moist conditions.
You will see the grass growing though the sock in about 7-14 days. Place the snake in a place where it can get plenty of sunshine & remember to water (mist) daily.
After the grass gets long enough, the kids may want to give the snake a haircut!
