Subject: Create a Fake Snake

Date: Fri Jan 12 16:43

Author: Tonya (tonyamb@bellsouth.net)

You need to start collecting bottle caos--ask others to start saving them too. You'll need 60-100 metal bottle caps per snake! Ask your local bottle company for some too.

To make this unique snake you need:
--60-100 metal bottle caps
--wooden block
--hammer
--large nail
--tapestry needle
--2 foot length of red yarn
--cork
--tacky glue or low-twmp hot glue gun
--beads or bittons for eyes

This craft can also be done as a small group project.

One by one, set the bottle cap right side up on the wooden block & use the hammer & nail to make a hole in the center of it.
Then thread the needle with the yarn, tie a knot at the opposite end and string the caps onto the yarn.

For the head, first hammer a pilot hole lenthwise through the cork, then thread the yarn through. (You may need pliers to pull the needle all the way through.)

Knot the yarn, leaving an extra 2 inches for the snake's tongue, then trim the excess yarn. Finally, glue on the beads or buttons for eyes.

If each child is making a snake, use fewer numbers of caps per snake---it'll be smaller, but still unique.
